@TorontoPolice Officers Awarded Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medals

so we’re here today to commemorate the service of several Toronto Police officers who have served overseas with the International Police Peace Operations program the government of canada has issued them that Canadian peacekeeping service medal and we’re here to issue those medals to them so the officers earn those medals by deploying to missions overseas in Afghanistan and Haiti and those missions have now been recognized as peacekeeping operations it’s great honor to receive the award this evening it being the Canadian peacekeeping service medal and being recognized by the country the service I am truly honoured An award like this makes you feel that your efforts however minimal are great they could have been have been recognized that your reference going overseas for this service bearing a tribal police service patch and going over and doing the work over there it means something to me it means something to the service one of the things that we we we did collectively as a Canadian contingent as well with Romanian officers was look after one of the hundreds of orphanages that are on the island and we looked after there’s 50 children on this in this orphanage and we looked after every aspect from their finances to getting them back on their feet from facilitating well being dug on their property so that they could generate their own income spending time with the children on Sunday afternoons Christmas we spent Christmas with them just the bonding with the the locals and the children i think that that affected me the most when you teach you hope there’s a glimmer one glimmer one day that when you’re talking to someone that they get it and they understand it and you always come back wonder if you did any good if you made any change but I can look back and remember the one or two glimmers of recognition of inspiration i guess for lack of a better word that some of those students had including a class where we had both females and males in a Muslim class which is unheard of that in itself is memorable but the the recognition that their understanding it that they’re getting it and maybe when you left you left some impact with them that’s the experience
