COMMUNITY’S HEROS IS ONE @# PEOPLE IN NEED WAITED OUTSIDE FOR MORE THAN 12 HOURS TO MAKE SURE THEIR FAMILY STAYS WARM THIS WINTER.TODAY WAS DISTRIBUTION DAY FOR THE SALVATION ARMY’S ANNUAL COATS FOR KIDS DRIVE.NEWS 18’S KELLY ROBERTS REPORTS HOW A COAT REALLY CAN WARM BOTH THE BODY AND THE SOUL.#@TONY JORDAN:7:10:22-:28 I’M THANKFUL FOR THE LORD FOR GETTING ME UP THIS DAY TO COME OUT HERE AND TRY TO GET A COAT. KELLY: THE SUNRISE WAS A RELIEF TO SOME PEOPLE IN LINE AT THE SALVATION ARMY SATURDAY MORNING.THOSE FIRST IN A LINE WRAPPING AROUND THE CORNOR AND DOWN THE STREET GOT THERE 8 OCLOCK FRIDAY NIGHT.. TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD FIRST PICK OF WINTER WEAR.. ALL DONATED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS.. DURING THE SALVATION ARMY’S ANNUAL COATS FOR KIDS.JORDAN: RIGHT NOW I HAVE NO MONEY TO GET ANY. I’M HOPING I CAN BE ABLE TO GET ONE WHILE I’M HERE. HAVE NO MONEY TO GET ANY. I’M KELLY: TONY JORDAN WAS LOOKING TO KEEP HIMSELF WARM .. OTHERS WERE SHOPPING FOR A WHOLE FAMILY.CHARLES SHROYER::26-:35 WE PRETTY MUCH LOST EVERYTHING WHEN WE HAD TO MOVE. WE NEEDED WINTER COATS, GLOVES, HATS, SCARVES. SALVATION ARMY MAJOR JIM IRVINE MADE SURE THOSE IN LINE GOT WHAT THEY NEEDED.JIM IRVINE:7:11:59-:10 LAST YEAR WE RECEIVED ABOUT 1,400 COATS. AS OF YESTERDAY WE KNEW WE HAD 1,468 COATS ON RACKS. WE STILL HAVE OTHERS THAT WE COULDN’T GET ON RACKS YET. KELLY: MAJOR IRVINE SAYS THE UNIQUE THING ABOUT COATS FOR KIDS IS THAT HE DOESN’T SEE THE SAME FACES EVERY YEAR.MAJOR IRVINE: 7:13:10-:24 THE NEED IS GREATER THIS YEAR THAN ANY OTHER TIME. THE ECONOMY IS STILL SOFT, AND PEOPLE ARE HAVING A HARD TIME MAKING ENDS MEET.
