Student Spotlight: Andrew Bonica | Commencement | Military | Berklee Online

Finally graduating here. I couldn’t be more excited. It was always my dream
to attend Berklee. From taking classes initially
with Berklee in my barracks room to finishing up a certificate
program when I was in Iraq in basically a tent
environment, now working for the government as
a federal civilian, I’ve always had a busy
life, full time schedule. I started with Berklee Online in
2005 with a specialist certificate in recording and production
for guitar with Pro Tools. And that was back when I was on
active duty as a United States Marine. And I finished that program just before
deploying to Iraq for my second tour. And when I returned I started again
with a professional certificate in further music production
and recording techniques. After I got out of the
Marine Corps, I was on the way to finish a Masters in
music production and technology with Berklee Online as well. What surprised me the
most was probably just being able to actually have
the same professors that I would have had here on the main campus. They’re the experts in the
field, so I felt like I was getting the same quality education. It’s just a fantastic
feeling that I’m finally going to be able to graduate here
in Boston and walk across the stage, collect my diploma, and finally
accomplish the goal that I set out to– not just 10, 11 years
ago in the Marines, but even from when I was a little
kid, growing up just about an hour away from here and being
so interested in music, knowing the Berklee reputation,
and just always having that in my mind as a goal. It’s kind of unbelievable. I don’t think it’s set in yet. [LAUGHS]
