SHOOTING RIFLES, GETTING GASSED AND TOUGHING THE MUD. THESE ARE NORMALLY A TASK A MARINE
PERFORMS. RECENTLY, HOWEVER, THEY WERE TASKS TAKEN ON BY THE SPOUSES OF MARINE CORPS AIR
STATION IWAKUNI PARTICIPATING IN JANE WAYNE DAY.
SB: Sgt Giancarlo Maragni- Event Drill Instructor (:18)
“Today we took the spouses of all the Marines and sailors of MCAS Iwakuni, H&HS and around
the base. Made them go through event training just to show them what we do on a day to day
AFTER A LONG, SWEATY DAY OF MILITARY LIFE, THE ONE-DAY DEVIL DOGS CAME TO THE SAME CONCLUSION.
SB: Deanna O’Neal- Participant (:25) “After doing Jane Wayne Day and all the
events, it provides more respect for not only my spouse, but all the Marines out there,
because they do a lot of physical activity. Everything is really exciting for a day, but
I don’t think I would be able to do it for a career.”
SB: Maribel Martinez- Participant(:37) “I would probably, um, be more sympathetic
now of him preparing for it, yeah, this is tough and I’m glad he’s the one doing
it and not me.” Reporter:
FOR SOME SPOUSES, WHO’VE NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO MILITARY LIFE, IT WAS AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE.
SB: Katie House- Jane Wayne Day Participant (:48)
“I didn’t grow up in a military home. I had no affiliation with it whatsoever my
entire life. I didn’t really know what it entailed. I knew it was probably hard, but
I didn’t really know, but this is so hard. As a military spouse, I’m just so proud
of what he does everyday. It’s just so kind of amazing to me that he hose to do this and
that he loves it. It’s pretty cool.” Reporter:
ALTHOUGH THE SPOUSES AGREED THAT MILITARY LIFE WAS NOT FOR THEM, THEY LEFT WITH A NEWFOUND
APPRECIATION FOR THE OCCUPATION THEIR SIGNIFICANT OTHERS CHOSE TO TAKE. REPORTING FROM MARINE
CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, JAPAN. I’M MARINE LANCE CORPORAL JENNIFER ROCHA.
