Should I think about going to a military academy

If you’re thinking about going into the military
at some point after high school or college, then this video is for you. Even if you’re not considering this, you should
know what all the options are, and you’ll have more knowledge on this subject. There are five federal service academies in
the u.s., Including the military academy at west point, the naval academy in annapolis,
the air force academy in colorado springs, the coast guard academy in connecticut, and
the merchant marine academy in long island, ny. While west point and the naval academy may
be the most widely recognized, the other academies are equally prestigious – especially the air
force academy, which consistently produces the most sought-after engineering graduates
with the highest entry-level pay. If you attend one of the academies, you won’t
have to pay any college tuition, and you’ll be paid a stipend while you’re enrolled
as a cadet. In return, after you graduate, you’ll serve
in the military as a commissioned officer. But here’s one thing to keep mind. It’s pretty difficult to get into a service
academy. You have to go through a detailed application
and interview process, and you even have to be appointed by your local senator or congressman. If you don’t want to go through the process
of trying to get an appointment, then there are many military colleges in the united states…like
the citadel, virginia military institute, the corps of cadets at virginia tech, and
the corps of cadets at texas a&m. These might be an even better fit than the
federal service academies, because of how they integrate “normal” college life with
the military regimen. Schools like the massachusetts maritime academy,
the maine maritime academy, and suny maritime are also worth considering. There’s also something called “ROTC” at many
non-military colleges. ROTC stands for reserve officers’ training
corps, and it’s a great option for students who aren’t sure about what they want in their
future, and don’t want to commit to a federal or state service academy. If none of these options sounds appealing,
then there’s also the possibility of becoming an officer in the military after you attend
a civilian college. Instead of enlisting right out of high school,
it may be better to get a four-year degree and then attend something called an officer
candidate school, which are offered by all branches of the military. If you think the military might be an interesting
career choice, but you’re not ready to dive in just yet, there are some opportunities
to get your feet wet, to see if a service academy might be a good fit. In that case, you should check out organizations
like the junior ROTC, the us coast guard auxiliary, and the us naval sea cadet corps.
