Remarks at the PCU Gerald R. Ford

Remarks at the PCU Gerald R. Ford

Thank you very much. What an honor. You know, they just gave
me this beautiful jacket; they said, “Here, Mr. President, please take this home.” I said, “Let me wear it.” (laughter) And then they gave
me the beautiful hat. And I said, “You know,
maybe I’ll do that. We have a great ‘Make
America Great Again’ hat, but I say this is a
special day we’re wearing this.” Right? (cheers) So, I have no idea how
it looks, but I think it looks good. It’s a great-looking hat. Just like this is a
great-looking ship. Thank you. I’m privileged to stand
here today with the incredible men and women
of the United States Navy. (cheers) American sailors are the
best warfighting sailors anywhere in the world,
and it’s not even close. And Susan, I am so glad
you could be with us. I know how hard you work. 17 visits, and she wanted
things done right. I will tell you, they told
me she wanted this one done right in honor of
both of her parents, who were great, great people. And we wanted to introduce
this beautiful vessel to the American people, and
I wanted to be here; I wanted to be with you. So, Susan, and to your
family, unbelievable job. Unbelievable. (applause) The soon-to-be-commissioned Gerald R. Ford USS, what a — what a place. It’s almost — it really
feels like a place. You stand on that deck
and you feel like you’re standing on a very
big piece of land. But this is
better than land. It will not only be a
great symbol of American strength but a great
legacy for your father and our former president
Gerald Ford. President Ford
was a navy man. By the way, he was also a
great athlete, for those of you who didn’t know. He saw action in the South
Pacific during World War II. He served his country with
honor in the military and in Congress, and
in the White House. The proud dignity of this
ship is a fitting tribute to Gerald Ford — the
man and the president. Congratulations to all
of the men and women who helped build it. This is American
craftsmanship at its biggest, at its
best, at its finest. American workers are the
greatest anywhere in the world. This warship and all that
serve on it should be a source of shared
pride for our nation. We’re joined today —
better believe it, right? Better believe it. (applause) Better believe it. And by the way, we’re soon
going to have more coming — have more come. (applause) We are joined today by
General Mattis, now Secretary Mattis. (applause) Where is he? Who will be charged with
overseeing this great rebuilding of our
military might. We will give the men and
women of America’s armed services the resources
you need to keep us safe. We will have the finest
equipment in the world — planes, ships, and
everything else. We are going have very
soon the finest equipment in the world. (applause) We will give our military
the tools you need to prevent war and, if
required, to fight war and only do one thing. You know what that is? Win! Win! (cheers) We’re going to start
winning again. Admiral John Richardson,
Chief of Naval Operations, is with us today as well. Great gentleman. Admiral, we’re going to
ensure our Navy has the resources, personal
training, and equipment, the kind of equipment
that you need. So, congratulations,
Admiral. And a lot more is coming. (applause) Let me congratulate
Captain Richard McCormick, commanding officer
of the Gerald R. Ford. This ship will make an
extraordinary addition to the fleet, like no other. Like no other. Anywhere in the world,
there’s nothing like this. It represents the future
of naval aviation. I have no greater
privilege than to serve as your Commander-in-Chief
and the Commander-in-Chief of the men and women
of the United States military. Great people. Great, great people. (applause) I salute you, and I
salute our sailors. I will always support
you and your mission. I will never, ever let you
down, and I also have to recognize Mike Petters,
President and CEO of Huntington Ingalls
Industries, along with Matt Mulherin, President
of Newport News Shipbuilding. They won’t let
you down, either. (applause) They’re not going to
let you down, either. To those who serve our
nation in uniform, and to those who build the
instruments of our defense, I thank you on
behalf of our nation. (cheers) Male Speaker: USA! The President:
(laughs) I agree. I agree. Our carriers are the
centerpiece of American military might overseas. We are standing today on
four and a half acres of combat power and
sovereign U.S. territory, the likes of which there is nothing to compete. There is no competition
to this ship. It is a monument to
American might that will provide the strength
necessary to ensure peace. This ship will carry 4,500
personnel and 70 aircraft, and will be a vital
component of our defense. This carrier, and the new
ships in the Ford class, will expand the ability of
our nation to carry out vital missions on the
oceans to project American power in distant lands. Hopefully, its power
we don’t have to use. But if we do, they’re
in big, big trouble. (applause) This great aircraft
carrier provides essential capabilities to keep us
safe from terrorism and take the fight to the enemy for many years in the future. The great Admiral Nimitz,
who commanded the U.S. Pacific fleet through the
Second World War, once said, “It is the function
of the Navy to carry the war to the enemy, so that will not be fought on U.S. soil.” True. (applause) And it was under Admiral
Nimitz’s command 75 years ago this June that the
Navy did just that. At the Battle of Midway —
you’ve all known about the Battle of Midway — where
the sailors of the U.S. Navy fought with a bravery
that will be remembered throughout the ages. Storied bravery. Throughout the ages. The backbone of the
American fleet at Midway was three beautiful
aircraft carriers: the Yorktown, the Enterprise,
and the Hornet. Al three were built with
American hands right here at the Newport
News Shipyard. (applause) At Midway, America was
greatly outnumbered by, I mean, a lot. (laughter) And its fleet badly
damaged, but the heroic deeds changed the
course of history. Many brave Americans died
that day, and through their sacrifice they
turned the tide of the Pacific War. It was a tough tide, it
was a big tide, it was a vicious tide, and
they turned it. Countless other Americans
in that war, some of them parents and grandparents
to people in this room today, came home thanks to
their very heroic deeds. The sailors at Midway are
part of a long line of American heroes, an
unbroken chain of patriots from each generation to
the next, who rose to defend our flag
and our freedom. That legacy continues
today as American warriors protect our people from
the threat of terrorism. On Tuesday, in my address
to a joint session of Congress, I asked Congress
to eliminate the Defense Sequester and to support
my request for a great rebuilding of the United
States military and the United States Navy. (applause) After years of endless
budget cuts that have impaired our defenses, I
am calling for the largest defense spending
increases in history. And by eliminating
the Sequester and the uncertainty it creates, we
will make it easier for the Navy to plan for
the future, and thus to control costs and get
the best deals for the taxpayer, which, of
course, is very important, right? Got to get a good deal. (cheers) We don’t make a good deal,
we’re not doing our job. The same boat for less
money, the same ship for less money, the same
airplanes for less money. That’s what we’re doing. That’s what we’re doing. It means we’re going to
get more of them, and we can use them. Our military requires
sustained, stable funding to meet the growing needs
placed in our defense. Right now, our aging
frontline strike and strike fighters — our
whole aircraft; many, many aircraft — are often more
likely to be down for maintenance than they
are to be up in the sky. Our navy is now the
smallest it’s been since, believe it or
not, World War I. Don’t worry. Going to soon be the
largest it’s been. Don’t worry. (applause) Think of that. Think of that. In these troubled times,
our navy is the smallest it’s been since
World War I. That’s a long time ago. In fact, I just spoke with
navy and industry leaders and have discussed my
plans to undertake a major expansion of our entire
navy fleet, including having the 12-carrier
navy we need. (applause) We also need more aircraft
to modernize capabilities and greater force levels. Additionally, we must
vastly improve our cyber capabilities. This great rebuilding
effort will great many jobs in Virginia and all
across America, and it will also spur new
technology and new innovation. America has always been
the country that boldly leads the world into the
future, and my budget will ensure we do so and
continue to do exactly that. American ships
will sail the seas. American planes
will soar the skies. American workers will
build our fleets. (applause) And America’s military
will ensure that even through the darkest nights
and throughout, a bright and glowing sun will
always shine on our nation and on our people. Our navy is great. Our navy is great. Our people are great. Great. (applause) Our republic will meet
any challenge, defeat any danger, face any threat,
and always will seek true and lasting peace. May God bless our
military, may God bless our navy, may God bless
the wonderful Gerald Ford family, and may God
continue to bless the United States of America. Thank you very much. (applause)

  1. when he said that our American sailors are the best he said something else and it made me think "does that even make sense? is he silently dissing the Navy in a way?" it was just weird. i hope it was just a mistake

  3. Msm is saying Trump's like and comments on the White House channel are fake and are claiming Trump's Twitter followers are fake. Let's show them how hard we #MAGA and like and comment on all of his content to show our support. 2 rules:
1.Comment & Like positive comments, don't feed into negative comments. Only positive vibes. 2. Don't allow yourself to be trolled by a Never Trumper. Either they'll get on the Trump train or jump off ๐Ÿ˜‚

  4. President Trump, has the Navy thought of painting up 12 old oil tankers to look like the 12 new aircraft carriers,so that the enemy shoots at ghost ships?

  5. We need to stop the Democrats and stop Obama. In Scottish Donald means Great Chief. God bless the Great Chief President Trump and God bless America ! ! MAGA ! !

  6. Sorry to comment so much, but wouldn't oil tankers be the perfect disguise for aircraft carriers? Oil tankers are so long that the steam catapult wouldn't be needed to launch jets.Maybe the catching device would be needed, especially in rough seas. This might sound ridiculous, but oil tankers don't have much on their main deck.Could the Navy build a deck with oil tanker fittings on the top, that flips over in sections like James Bond's license plate to create a runway? President Trump,i don't think an oil tanker would stick out much in the Middle East, especially if it's using the trade routes oil tankers use.The enemy expects jets to be launched from aircraft carriers, not oil tankers.Disguised oil tankers could be used as mobile refueling stations, like the way that jets are refueled in midair by tanker planes.Jets could land on them, refuel, then take off again in areas where U.S aircraft carriers aren't allowed or supposed to be.In the videogame Subnautica, you enter your base through the bottom.Could an oil tanker have a section in the bottom of it where U.S submarines could dock, using the tanker as radar and sonar cover?

  7. Anyone else find that they can't stop smiling at videos like this? You can really see that this is a man who loves his country and the American people.

  8. ๐Ÿ™ God bless our magnificent NAVY and all our Armed Services. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ An incredible tribute to our former President G. Ford.๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ #GONAVY ๐ŸŒŠโšกโ˜ Looking extra-sharp Mr. President. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

  9. With devil's advocate hat on, (but while i won't dispute we should continue to upgrade) with tech as it is, we should never again need a Navy much larger than WW1. Ships are much larger, must faster with incredible sensors plus aircraft for recon. Our current Navy would be able to wipe out our WW2 Navy(at our nations peak craft and personnel-wise) with relative ease.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is, we hear you Mr. President, but we can also try and digest the words. The false equivalency talk just sounds like political grandstand which we thought you weren't going to do. You promised you'd tell us straight.

  10. I like this side of trump more. He seems less like a national mistake, and more like a president. If he spoke like this during the primary, I might've even voted for him. He seems like he actually gives a damn and isn't just trying to scam the country.

  12. it's time for EUropean rich class to invest in real economy if don't want be rich with nobody defens them.

  13. This is the side of our President I wish those klepto-pundits in the Media would properly show. I see a man who is quite genuine in his appreciation and actions.

  14. The Taxation issue? Did you know what it was never about Slavery that caused the Civil War? The REAL issue that caused the civil war was "taxes."

It was too in the north to grow cotton, vegetables, wheat, etc. The NORTH wanted to TAX the South. It should have been the other way around. THAT WAS WHAT CAUSED THE WAR!….TAXES!!

  15. His attraction and promotion of the military and war talk is kind of scary to me. Maybe it's because he bailed when he was young and had the chance. And of course now he can do it from behind a desk and let all these young kids risk their lives instead. Not my President.

We have the right to install the American defense system in our own country, but the Chinese are giving us hard time by retailiating. Please give them a hard time. We hate the CHinese. All asians hate Chinese. Long live the Korea-US alliance!

  22. Please President Trump,

Help fix the horrible props 57 and 47 in California. We are being flooded by aggressive panhandling crackheads who steal and clean (not high) looters entering this "new business opportunity" because of the propositions

We had Zero problems on our street … wonderful neighborhood – for 8 years. By no coincidence, since Thanksgiving, 8 incidents in Less than 4 Months! It's crazy.

There are all kinds of crackheads moving into town and setting up camps in fields. They go into local businesses and steal. They literally use a calculator to ensure the theft falls under the new misdemeanor only charge. They then tell cops "just give me the ticket" since it's no longer jailtime basically.

They are stealing from our homes… quads and tools and porch furniture and so much more. Next they will be coming into our homes. This was Never a problem before.

The police are identifying so many of these guys flooding in from out of state – pouring in because of our new lax crazy props 57 and 47

Also keep criminals where they belong- in jail with expansion of jails (please budget for this, along with what you are already doing to expand our national safety please expand our local safety with larger jails and larger police forces) other props considering Making many aggressive crimes only a misdemeanor too? What kind of insane experiment to further ruin California is this?

Please President Trump – help us and the other states with these crazy propositions – fix the insanity – this is ruining our safety. Local law enforcement agrees 100% – it jeopardizes OUR safety, the innocent citizens and they are overwhelmed by it as well. I've spoken with officers who respond to our calls of theft and other calls (some of which they can't even respond to from being spread so thin in our area, or take 1+ hour to respond due to not enough staffing) and they want to help but are literally overwhelmed with the explosion in activity because of these propositions. They think it's as insane as we do. A total failed experiment of our safety.

I believe 100% in your caring of our safety. Please also give attention to this local level issue that is causing us great harm. I believe if you ask our law enforcement in our state, and in our small towns – you will find a unanimous reply in this subject from the good citizens. The only winners are the criminals in these 3 propositions. The third that might come to pass would be yet another devastating blow in addition to the two that have already passed. I had a conversation with a neighboring police department while at a city event yesterday. All police ๐Ÿ‘ฎ agreed this hurts them as short staffed to be able to respond to all the calls and makes them look bad, and them unable to do sufficient work they desire to do for us – the citizens being abused by the criminals now utilizing the propositions to their advantage – to steal, to get away with it, to laugh at it and mock police responding to the calls, and ultimately at our businesses and our homes paying the price for the insane legislation.

I believe you would end this if you become well aware of the sudden increase in crime because of it and would repeal it.

Thank you President Trump! I appreciate your time. I'm a family man, have a wife and 2 children. I want them safe. When I spoke to the neighboring town PD while at the public event, they commented that it's now like this across California because of the props. No "safe place" to leave to because of them. (Because I asked, where should I go to within California? They responded it's like this across California now as they have had talks with other PD stations asking if they are experiencing the same. Indeed… they ALL are)

We, the citizens, are paying the price for lack of jail space… and it's a steep – steep price – "So True" ๐Ÿ˜‰. Help end the madness. I believe you would and will if it comes to your attention. ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿ‘ I guarantee the savings in jail costs, (let's call it tens of millions) is actually costing a hundred times that or more to citizens in stolen property, and infinitely more in the citizens peace of mind as this problem increases so dramatically – losing faith in the safety our nation is to provide us on a local level too (not just national level).

  23. President Trump is magnificent!
His loyalty to America is supreme and I am proud of him, and our Military Service Personnel! Because of your sacrifices we live in the Land of the Free and and Home of the Brave
As a Virginian I am also proud of our ship builders in Newport News! GO NAVY!!

  24. The finest equipment in the World ? Wonderfull, can't wait to see the TR-3B ASTRA all around on U.S. Airforce bases all around ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. The black guy behind and Hispanos hatin on Trump haha What an irony the guy who you prohibited to enter America is the cousin of the guy definding your country

  26. What an uplifting and morale boosting visit, showing his respect and staunch support of the Military. He is definitely for the people and making America great again! ๐Ÿ—ฝ
I loved President Trump's first joint session of congress address- which I never bothered watching before, was very stirring and heartfelt. ๐Ÿ’›
Thank you President Trump! What a huge difference in leadership- from former anti-American POTUS – it's a breath of fresh air now having President Trump who is a true champion for America.

i can't remember who said that, but i've known of this quote for decades. & it is appropo to our current president. trump is a seriously 'unstable' man, with dominant & authoritarian tendencies. how long will it be before his 'hubris' grows to such an extent, that he starts to take on a 'messainic' personality? & when that happens…… my God, & he hasn't even been in office 3 months.

'unstable'/dominant leader + vast unlimited power = absolute catastrophy

  28. 3/7/17; (2), (sigh), well it looks like the sons of bitches are going to do it. the gop are going to 'repeal' & 'replace' 'Obamacare'. question; 'wouldn't it have been easier to just take the ACA as it is, tweak whatever 'flaws' (in republican minds), in it, & keep it functioning, so that you don't disrupt the lives of millions of people, as opposed to just tearing up the whole thing & starting from scratch'? to answer my own rhetorical question, yes, it would have been easier, & better. but for the gop, that's not the point. because you see, republicans don't give a damn about affordable healthcare for all americans. that's why they slapped together this piece of shit legislation, as a 'replacement'. they don't give a damn, whether or not it actually works. their main goal is 'legacy destruction'. the gop/'conservatives' can't stand the idea of 'The Black Man' leaving behind anything possitive, because it disrupts their racist narratives.

  29. 3/7/17; (3), as i've said, the 'repeal' of 'Obamacare' is nothing but 'legacy destruction'. the 'conservatives' looked at 'social security', (another great program from another Great Liberal President), & they became alarmed. as a party, they couldn't afford to allow The Democrats to get credit for not only one, but two positive programs that benefit the American people, while they themselves offer nothing but building walls, banning muslims, deporting latinos, tax cuts to the wealthy, unecessary wars, & economic collapse. President Obama MUST be separated from this legislation. He must not be allowed to go down in history implementing this positive program, ALA, FDR & 'social security'. that's why 'conservatives' fought this legislation even before its implementation. they 'trashed it', talked down on it, filibustered it, voted against it, sabotaged it, & now that they're in power, (because of a flaw in the electoral system), they get to get rid of it, despite the obvious will of the American people.

  30. 3/7/17; (4), whatever happened to the, 'can do spirit'? whatever happened to, "there's nothing that americans can't do when we put our minds to it"? after all, arn't we supposed to be, 'EXCEPTIONAL'? President Obama implemented a program to provide affordable healthcare for all americans, & He got absolutely ZERO support from republican/'conservatives'. that's stunning in & of itself. none of the republicans offered to help The President in order to ensure that it works. that 'can do spirit', suddenly deserted the gop. that tells us that either the 'conservatives' didn't want President Obama to leave behind a positive legacy, or that they did not want to provide affordable healthcare for all americans. or both. but whatever the reason, they fought it tooth & nail. & now that they're in power, they slapped together some piece of shit legislation as a 'replacement'. but their hearts are not really in it, because they never believed in providing affordable healthcare for all americans, anyway. but the gop understands, that they can't just 'tear up' 'Obamacare' without having a 'replacement'. it would expose them as only wanting 'legacy destruction'. plus, they knew that if they throw millions of people off of their insurance without a replacement, they would pay a fearful price at the polls. so the gop held their noses, & very reluctantly offered an 'alternative' to 'Obamacare', even though providing affordable healthcare for all americans, is totally against everything they stand for. & besides, if it fails, it fails. no big deal.

  31. 3/7/17; (5), you've asked for it. you've waited for it. & now it's here. another episode of, 'limpballs on the couch'. this is where we dump 'limpballs' onto a urine stained, bedbug infested sofa, 'flex cuff' him to the sofa legs, & pump him full of 'sodium penthathol'. then we find out what makes rush, 'tick'. this is where we find out what makes 'limpballs', the pathetic son of a bitch, that millions of us hate. 'limpballs on the couch'. let's open him up, & find out what's inside.

  32. 3/7/17; (6), you ever notice, that when rush ever mentions Secretary of State John Kerrey, he always 'snarkely' adds, "who served in vietnam"? he does it almost every time. now why is that? why would a guy like 'limpballs', supposedly a 'patriot', impugn the character of a veteran? i mean after all, arn't 'conservatives' supposedly supportive of the troops? but in 'limpballs' case, there's something else at work here. rush, dodged the draft. for whatever reason he did it, he dodged the draft. when he had the opportunity to serve his country, rush simply 'pussied out'. SUPER PATRIOT RUSH LIMBAUGH FAILED TO ANSWER HIS NATIONS CALL TO ARMS! why? was he pursuing some scholarly research at a prestigious university? was he physically barred from entering the military? was he an only child? what was it, that kept 'limpballs' from serving shoulder to shoulder with the troops he pretends to 'revere'?

  33. 3/7/17; (7), he was simply afraid. either rush was afraid that he would 'get his ass shot off', (& he's probably right), or, there is also an outside possibility that rush didn't want to be put into a military, that would have him in too close proximity with Blacks. eating, sleeping, & showering with Blacks, would have been 'horrifying' to rush. being around Blacks all day long, just wouldn't do. he had to get out of it. so what did he do? he got out of the draft, by complaining that he had a 'cyst' on his butt. (i'm sure that his uncles, being judges, had something to do with him getting out of it). & i could just see in my minds eye, the army doctor examining all the craters on rush's ass, trying to locate the 'cyst', on his pimply ass. (like a needle in a haystack).

  34. 3/7/17; (8), now we get to Secretary of State John Kerry. Secretary Kerry is all the things that 'limpballs' hate. moneyed, good looking, well bred, priviledged. all the things that rush isn't. 'limpballs' knows he comes from trash, & he resents Secretary Kerry for His status. & in addition, when His nation called, John Kerry not only DID'T dodge the draft, He VOLUNTEERED to go to nam. limpballs hates him for that. that's why he always snarkely adds after every time he mentions John Kerry's name, "who served in vietnam". see, John Kerry makes 'limpballs' feel small. Kerry 'stepped up', while rush 'pussied out', & 'limpballs' resents Kerry for making him feel that way.

  35. 3/717; (9), that's it for now. that was just a kind of 'abridged' version of this 'episode'. but there is more, so much more. until next time, thanks for reading this episode of, 'limpballs on the south'.

  36. 3/7/17; (10), hey 'hanniot', stop trying to be so overly 'dramatic'. & if your 'fuhrer' wants to have investigations, i say 'bring it on', russia, wiretapping, everything.

  37. Some of these sailors look like Obama throw backs. The military needs to make sure your either with us or your not in the military. Most of the brown skinned sailors did not clap and looked uninterested

  38. Serbian people support Trump. Clinton bombed our country for the reasons of invented lies and proofs, but it's now time for a change. It's going to be gradual, but it's going to happen.

  39. What a fabulous day – even as POTUS it must be hard for him to not be really excited. I am so proud of him and what he is hoping to do for the people of the USA

  40. Those people behind him didn't look to be too happy. Probably all Obama people. These people look like they hate him. It's awful! Bet they did it on purpose

  41. The FBI Director is in the same bed with Hilary Obama and George Soros they are responsible for the assassination attempt on Trump that is why they where wiretapping him

  42. yeah thats nice all americans can enjoy your new military equipment but what about our military yeah i military budgets get cut while he plays god
