[MUSIC PLAYING] – On December 14, 2009, United
States Rear Admiral William Brown joined Deputy Chief
of Mission Tom Navratil, Minister of Defense
Zoran Konjanovski, and Chief of Defense Lieutenant
General Miroslav Stojanovski to present medals to 31 soldiers
from the Army of Macedonia for their Distinguished
Service in Iraq. Four soldiers received
Meritorious Service Medals, and 27 received army
commendation medals. 490 soldiers from Macedonia
served in Iraq from 2003 until the end of 2008,
and received 163 awards for distinguishing themselves
in this important mission. Both Admiral Brown and
Deputy Chief of Mission praised the soldiers not
only for their brave service but also for serving as
excellent representatives of Macedonia. Many family members were
present for the presentation of the medals. And each speaker thanked
them for their support of the soldiers. The Admiral and the
Minister of Defense also underscored Macedonia’s
continuing commitment to multinational
peacekeeping efforts, highlighting the
troops currently serving in Afghanistan,
Bosnia, and Lebanon. In closing, Admiral
Brown again thanked Macedonia for its continuing
commitment to Euro-Atlantic integration, and for the service
of its outstanding soldiers in important missions
throughout the world.
