Proposed Assault Weapons Ban

DEBATES IN THE COUNTRY — GUN CONTROL. WHILE COMPANIES LIKE WALMART ARE TAKING THEIR OWN STAND ON THE ISSUE, A PROPOSAL FOR THE 2020 LEGISLATIVE SESSION WOULD TAKE FURTHER ACTION ON ASSAULT-STYLE WEAPONS. NEWS 13’S ERIKA ORSTAD HAS MORE. “The government has no business knowing what kind of gun I’ve got or how many I’ve got.” THE DEBATE OVER GUNS ROLLS ON… “You never know who’s going to walk in Walmart and start shootings…” AFTER WALMART HAS DECIDED TO STOP SELLING CERTAIN TYPES OF AMMUNITION AND IS REQUESTING THOSE IN OPEN-CARRY STATES NOT TO DO SO IN THEIR STORES. “If it’s going to keep us safe, I’m for it.” BUT A NEW PROPOSED STATE CONSTITU TIONAL AMENDMENT TAKES IT A STEP FURTHER — BANNING THE SALE OF ASSAULT WEAPONS IN FLORIDA. “The proposal would ban assault weapons like this one, but it would also ban rifles like the Ruger 10-22, a low-power gun commonly used to teach kids how to shoot small game, like rabbits and squirrels.” THE MEASURE DEFINES AN ASSAULT WEAPON AS ANY SEMI- AUTOMATIC GUN THAT CAN HOLD MORE THAN TEN ROUNDS AT A TIME.
