Poole's General Store Closing

step inside the pools general merchandise store in Seneca Maryland and you're greeted by a sign that says a meeting place a change of pace courtesy and country charm it's an atmosphere that the pool family has maintained since 1972 when Raymond and Billy began the store selling livestock products and animal feed catering to local farmers and hunters all the duck hunters that that I hunt with in even deer hunters as well always look forward to at the end of the morning coming in the pool store particularly what they like today with the snow it's cold and we can get a hot soup sandwich but now after nearly 40 years in business the pools have decided not to renew their lease from the Montgomery County Parks Department which is leased the land to the pools ever since Hurricane Agnes flooded the original store pretty sad we grew up in this store and we worked to here all our lives and then you know all our friends and everything is revolved around the stores the original building was built in 1901 long before many family farms or replaced with housing and commercial development although times have changed pools general store has stayed the same if we don't have customers we had friends and they all come here as friends and not its customers but it's been wonderful many farmers in the area say mom and pop stores are a dying breed and are sad to see it go there being there are fewer and fewer stores that cater to farm uses obviously than there were once before this is closest and the oldest one around the county hopes to eventually find new tenants to take over the store become new years the pools will close their doors for the last time and I hate me good have a good thing comes to the end they say so this is it in poolesville tom george 4 News 4
