Each year, Farm Credit’s Young Professionals group chooses a project to have a service project in the spring. This year,
we chose to pack military care boxes and donate them to Huck Plyler. Huck is the
eight-year-old son of one of our customers and he has started a project
where he sends military care packages to soldiers that are deployed overseas. This year, we asked all of our members,
our branch staff and our directors to come together and donate items that can be
sent to our soldiers. For a month we gathered items at all of our branches
and came together in a central location today to pack all those boxes.
Packing the boxes is pretty intense. You have to write down everything that goes in a box and it takes a lot of work, so we didn’t want that to be a burden to
Huck’s family. Our Young Professionals group came together and it packed 100 boxes today to be able to send to soldiers overseas. Hi my name is Huck. I started the
military care packages and how I started this was when I was playing
with my cows and I wondered, “How did they get that stuff?” So the first thing that
popped into my mind was, “Why don’t we ship boxes?” We send socks, underwear, toothpaste, toothbrushes. The best part about it is I’m helping, because they don’t get anything and I’m helping give them stuff.
