Hubbell Lightings lands a military helicopter at Fisher Middle School

ALY MYLES EXPLAINS WHY. ALY: A LITTLE WIND. OK, A LOT OF WIND. EITHER WAY, IT WASN’T GOING TO STOP A COBRA HELICOPTER FROM LANDING AT THIS SCHOOL.>>IT’S A WINDY DAY, IT’S A CHILLY DAY, BUT CERTAINLY, HAD AN EXPERT DOING IT WITH ME. HE LET ME HOLD THE CONTROLS. ALY: BECAUSE ONE OF THE MEN INSIDE IS KEVIN POYCK, HUBBELL LIGHTING’S CEO, AND A HUGE PROPONENT OF STEM.>>I THINK WE TURNED A LOT OF PEOPLE ON TODAY TO SAY, WOW. THERE’S MORE TO THE MILITARY, THERE’S MORE TO HUBBELL LIGHTING, THERE IS MORE TO BEING IN A COBRA HELICOPTER THAN WHAT WE THOUGHT, AND HOW COULD I BE PART OF THAT WHEN I CREATE MY CAREE ALY: HE SAYS IT IS NEVER TOO YOUNG TO START TALKING ABOUT SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH.>>WE WANT KIDS TO GET EXCITED ABOUT ENGINEERING FROM THE VERY BEGINNING STAGES. AND WHEN THEY FALL IN LOVE WITH IT, THEY BECOME FUTURE EMPLOYEES FOR US, AND GREAT CONTRIBUTORS TO THE COMMUNITY. ALY: AND THE MOVE? WELL, IT WORKED.>>I THOUGHT IT WAS COOL, BECAUSE I’VE NEVER SEEN A HELICOPTER UP CLOSE. I’VE SEEN A PLANE, BUT HELICOPTERS ARE SO MUCH BIGGER, AND THEY GO SO MUCH FASTER. I THOUGHT IT WAS INSANELY COOL. ALY: THE STUDENTS WE TALKED TO MIGHT NOT WANT TO START FLYING THE HELICOPTERS, BUT THEY ARE EXCITED FOR FUTURE STEM JOBS.>>I’D RATHER, LIKE, BE A MECHANIC, OF THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND STUFF.>>I REALLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING IN TECHNOLOGY, AND I REALLY WANNA BE, LIKE, A MOVIEMAKER, BECAUSE I THINK THAT’S SO COOL. ALY: THEY’RE ALSO NOT ABOUT TO TURN DOWN A RIDE IF IT’S AVAILABLE.>>NO PART OF YOU WANTS TO GO FLY IN A HELICOPTER NOW?>>I REALLY DO. ALY: ALY MYLES, WYFF NEWS 4, IN
