Holocaust survivor recalls the military training with the Jewish Brigade soldiers after the war

We arrived in Italy, in Milan. It was impossible to immigrate to Eretz Israel,
the British were here, you couldn’t enter Eretz Israel. So what did we do? They told us young men,
we were young men, all of us were 18-20. They gave us an address in Torino. Outside the city of Torino
there was an army training course for us. They did army training there. The counsellors were all soldiers
in the British Army, the Brigade. They were our counsellors. We did all the military exercises,
like all soldiers need to do. The training was extremely hard,
we trained day and night. We slept perhaps three hours per night. Training day and night. We trained there for 2 months,
it was outside Torino. When we reached that address, we met local Italians, and we asked for the… Villa…
I don’t remember the exact name of the villa. It wasn’t a villa, it was a farm
surrounded by a wall, a huge house with dozens of rooms,
and we lived in it. Whoever came in wasn’t allowed to leave. It was… You couldn’t leave the camp
until you completed the course, until they brought you to Eretz Israel.
