Family of WWII veteran reunited with service member’s Purple Heart

WHEN SERVICE MEN OR WOMEN ARE WOUNDED WHEN LOSING THEIR LIVINGS SERVING OUR COUNTRY, THEY ARE HONORED WITH A PURPLE HEART. BUT OVER THE YEARS, SOMETIMES THE MEDALS ARE MISPLACED OR LOST OR STOLEN. WE WERE THERE AS THE FAMILY OF A WORLD WAR II VETERAN WAS REUNITED WITH HIS LOST MEDAL. CHUCKY ALMOND’S GRANDFURTHERP FATHER, IN 1943, HIS PLANE WAS SHOT DOWN. HE WAS CAPTURED BY THE NAZS AND HELD AS A PRISONER OF WAR. THE PURPLE HEART HE WAS AWARDED AFTER THE WAR WAS FOUND AT A SALVATION ARMY IN CONCORD. THIS WEEK, THE NONPROFIT, PURPLE HEART REUNITED, RETURNED ON THAT MEDAL TO HIS GRANDSON. IT’S A MONUMENTAL THING TO HAVE SOMETHING THIS VALUABLE THAT MY GRANDFATHER SACRIFICED TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY. AND TO HAVE THIS WOULD BE SOMETHING I COULD KEEP FOREVER THAT WILL REMIND ME YOU KNOW, WHAT HE DID. STAFF SERGEANT ALMOND PASSED AWAY IN CONCORD BACK IN 1987. JUST THIS WEEK, PURPLE HEARTS
