Crime Prevention Thursday- Stetson Hills Division

hey everybody it’s officer MJ Thompson
with another crime prevention Thursday tip for you hey everybody today we got a
special guest to my right here is my boss this is commander Dave Edmundson and
he’s the commander of the Stetson hills division and how do you everybody thanks
for being there today so we’re gonna start to try to introduce some of our
command staff to you guys obviously commander evidence in the commander of
the Stetson hills division he runs the entire division he’s responsible for all
the employees here so we’re gonna introduce to you some before a command
staff so boss some things were coming today one thing that we’re worried about
and we’re working on this year’s traffic safety we have a lot of issues in the
last year with traffic fatalities what are your thoughts on that what do we do
one up here in this division that kind of combat that thing one of the things
that we’re gonna be doing a little different this year is really working
with our crime analysts and our traffic analysts to determine where we need to
be focusing on our efforts and we’ve really gotten some good strategies here
you know between using speed data or intersection related traffic accidents
or those things looking at like by volume or severity and those types of
things and then focusing our efforts there and then really reporting back our
results we want to be able to tell the cops hey you guys worked on this you did
a great job we’ve reduced it X amount great job down list let’s go to the next
location and continue to do that the other component of that we’re really
stepping up enforcement with 48 people dead from last year that’s just this is
really well we can’t predict or control all of them we can take the information
from those and try our best to save lives and so you’re gonna see us focused
on that this year here instead Sandhills division and
throughout the city so I think correct me if I’m wrong I think we’re all ready
yet six fatalities this year is that right for 2019 I think where it’s said
is definitely already so so we like I said we have really gotta take control
of this and try to save some lives right so another thing that we
we do with commander innocent did the end of last year we had a what we call
the crime static strategy meeting with our block captain’s up here and the
Stetson Coast division and just try to educate the community on things that
they can do to not be a victim of a crime things like blocking your car
doors rolling your car windows up shutting the garage door um you know
even more specific than that not leaving anything in your house these guys we
have video of these guys walking up in the middle of night up to your vehicle
with a flashlight and checking all the interior of it if there’s something in
there they want they’re breaking the window going and getting it right so
just remember in the evenings take out your items and especially please do not
leave a gun in the car that is a target of being beers right now amongst getting
your information or so forth they want guns and they want valuables and they
are taking them and so make sure you’re taking that out of the car locking it up
in the house until the next day and then take it back out with you that’s really
critical one other thing that real quick just so people understand we we should
do this at the beginning is how many how many officers do you have in your
division bus sworn officers I’m about 70 72 right um but I’ve got a total of
about 120 employees here in the division because we’ve got a lot of civilians
that work really hard for your safety as well right and so I know we’re the
largest division in the city by geographical area population yes right
so I think we have a roughly about 160 65,000 residents in our division right
I’m gonna say roughly I’m supposed to have an email with that exact number
here pretty quick right so guys uh you know we’re a large division we’re a
large city so anything that we can do to reduce crime or help reduce crime is a
benefit so commander I want to thank you for coming in today taking a couple
times out of your busy schedule and talking with our with our folks here
appreciate it so and thank all of you for helping us out absolutely so thanks
for tuning in guys we’ll see you next Thursday for another crime prevention
life thanks
