He has a big part of his life back. THEY REMINDED ME OF MY FRIENDS WHAT WE STOOD FOR. THE CLOSEST WE HAD. AND WE NEVER LEFT ONE ANOTHER BEHIND. NO MATTER HOW BAD IT GOT. HAND TO HAND COMBAT. THEY STOOD RIGHT THERE TOE TO TOE. These medals represent his service in Vietnam and the men he fought with. Last December, someone stole all of Joseph’s medals from his house. TOOK PART OF MY LIFE. THAT’S WHAT MY FRIENDS STOOD FOR. I DIDN’T GET THEM BY MYSELF. I GOT EM BECAUSE OF ALL MY FRIENDS. When Congressman Bill Johnson found out what happened– he wanted to help a fellow veteran– and started getting replacement medals for Joseph. I COULD NEVER REPAY YOU FOR WHAT YOU’VE DONE FOR ME. OH NO, IT’S US THAT ARE REPAYING YOU MY FRIEND. One, by one. HERE’S YOUR PURPLE HEART, THANK YOU. Congressman Johnson presented Joseph with his medals– THIS IS YOUR AIR MEDAL. Joseph got five medals back, a republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, a badge and bars. His replacement Silver Star is on the way. YOU GIVEN ME PART OF MY LIFE BACK. WELL, WE’RE PROUD. I LOOK AT THEM, I LOOK AT MY FRIENDS THAT FOUGHT… WE’RE PROUD TO DO THAT. For Joseph, the bond of brotherhood is still strong– all these years later. Even though a lot of his friends aren’t alive anymore– they’re alive in Joseph’s heart. I called Wellsville Police to see if there’s any new information about Joseph’s stolen medals. The chief told me there is a lead in the case, but couldn’t go into detail.
