Boots to Suits radio interview on K102.5

Bobby: Supertramp and the Logical Song wrapping
up 30 minutes of Kalamazoo’s greatest hits of the 70s, 80s, and more. Bobby Guy
at twenty after 9 as we get you into the work day with more music coming up and
we want to help you find a new job. Billy Clayton is here, military advocate
for Western Michigan University, thanks for coming in this morning. Billy: Thanks for
having me, Bob. Bobby: You are here for a special occasion, a great event you guys
have coming up. Billy: Yes, so tomorrow, 23rd of March from two to six pm at Western
Michigan University’s campus in the Bernhard Center, we’re having our fourth
annual Boots to Suits Career Fair. This career fair is set up to find
employment for individuals who are currently serving in the military, whether that’s active-duty, guard, or reserve, those who have served in whatever
capacity that is, as well as military dependents. Bobby: Okay, so this is a job fair
and we just had our Southwest Michigan Job Fair a couple of weeks ago, but this
one is geared specifically toward military personnel. Billy: Yes, that’s correct
and it’s kind of funny because I’m not really from Michigan. I’m actually from
Kansas and I came here in 2009…what I really realized about Southwest Michigan
is how how well they support their military community. So it was
really nice and it was really an amazing to see how quick these companies are
coming online, these companies that are known to have, you know, services to help
those veterans not even get a job but keep the job and grow within the
company come and sign on for this career fair. Bobby: Yeah and i think that’s it..they’ve
got to realize that the training and the character that people get in their
military service really benefits the employer later on. Billy: Yeah,
definitely. They all know the work ethic that comes with them, they all value the
experience th at these individuals bring, and it’s just a real good match up
with coming here at Western. Bobby: Good and that’s it… they don’t have to be
Western Michigan University students. We’re not just talking about the kids
who sign up for the military to get through college; this is open to anyone.
Billy: That is correct. We’ll have employers there who are looking for individuals with
that higher education degree, but we’re also going to have people there looking
for skilled trades and really who understand the value of having military
members in their ranks. They just want you to come out and take a look and see
what they have to offer. Bobby: Good and this takes place on the campus of Western
Michigan University, but you don’t have to be an alumnus, you don’t have to be a
student, you don’t have t o necessarily have any connection to Western
besides being in Kalamazoo and being in the military. Billy: That’s correct. It’s open
to the public, to the public military community. Bobby: Fantastic. That happens 2
until 6 tomorrow at the Bernhard Center? Billy: At the Bernhard Center. There
is no cost for the fair, there’s no cost for parking. The parking garage right
next to the Bernhard Center will be opened up…just roll right in there, park, and
follow the signs. Bobby: Fantastic and Billy it’s great that there’s a department, a
complete department for a department …tell me what it is? Billy: We’re the
Office of Military Veteran Affairs at Western. Our job is to remove as many
barriers as possible to help those those people in our military student
population get a degree and get out there and get a job. Bobby: There you go and we
love you guys in the military thank you so much for your service and what you do.
Billy: Thank you so much and thank you for having me. Bobby: You bet. it’s the the job fair
happening tomorrow: Boots to Suits and you can get all the information,
including a link to exactly where the Bernhard Center is at k102.5.com.
Good luck out there, and again, thank you, Billy. Thanks for being in this morning.
Billy: Thanks for having me. Bobby: Got a no talk triple play next on k 1025.
