the army has shown off its new fleet of heavy trucks they're more versatile and better protected as Brendan Savage has discovered they're the most modern army logistics trucks in the world oh this is a Ferrari and Lamborghini for sure hauling everything from boats and bridges to water and fuel a warfare has changed and logistics has changed and this is the future more than two and a half thousand new vehicles are on their way replacing the Army's 30-year old fleet of aging mac and Unimog trucks tenfold better absolutely yeah we've the automated manual transmission everything is just so smooth and very easy to drive and also much safer 40% of the fleet will feature armored cabins the ability to stay in the vehicle protected while you're doing a job means soldiers are safer and we get that done job done quicker more effectively and efficiently the trucks were made in Austria they're Brisbane built trailers can offload cargo without soldiers getting in harm's way modular cubes can carry tools equipment even a mobile command center whatever's needed to get the job done that's the sort of versatility we don't have at the moment where our vehicles are restricted to the type of configuration they currently are in soldiers will begin playing with these new toys next month that's when several months of rigorous training on the vehicles begins they'll be rolled out to army units in 2017 keeping the army on the move and in the fight for years to come Brendan Savage 10 Eyewitness News
