HEY THERE EVERYONE, I’M
STAFF SERGEANT GREG CERNY WITH YOUR LOOK
AROUND THE AIR FORCE. U.S. AIR FORCES IN EUROPE HAS
RECENTLY APPROVED A WAY TO RECOGNIZE AIRMEN FOR THEIR
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STRATEGIC AIRLIFT CAPABILITY PROGRAM
AND THE HEAVY AIRLIFT WING AT PÁPA AIR BASE, HUNGARY. THE HEAVY AIRLIFT WING
SERVICE MEDAL, WAS APPROVED FOR
PRESENTATION TO U.S. AIRMEN ON JAN. 14, 2019. THE HEAVY AIRLIFT WING IS
THE WORLD’S FIRST AND ONLY MULTINATIONAL C-17
GLOBEMASTER III WING, AND PROVIDES MILITARY
STRATEGIC AIRLIFT CAPABILITY TO 12 NATO AND
PARTNER NATIONS AS WELL AS THE UNITED STATES. RAISING THE NUMBER OF
FLYING COMBAT MISSIONS IS ONE WAY THE AIR FORCE IS
INCREASING IT’S LETHALITY AND READINESS. DAVIS MONTHAN AIR FORCE
BASE, IS BRINGING BACK I-C-TEES OR INTEGRATED
COMBAT TURNS TO RAPIDLY RE-ARM AND REFUEL THEIR
A-10 THUNDERBOLT TWO AIRCRAFT. I-C-TS HAVE BEEN USED BY
THE AIR FORCE IN THE PAST, BUT ARE MAKING A COMEBACK
TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COMBAT SORTIES FLOWN. INTEGRATED COMBAT TURNS
ARE MADE UP OF A HIGHLY TRAINED WORKFORCE WITH
EXPERIENCE THAT ALLOWS THE CREWS TO LOAD AND MAINTAIN
AN AIRCRAFT IN A FRACTION OF THE TIME IT
USUALLY TAKES. AIRMAN 1ST CLASS PEEJAY
JACK, A 290TH JOINT COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT
SQUADRON VEHICLE MAINTAINER WITH THE
FLORIDA AIR NATIONAL GUARD, WAS AWARDED THE
AIRMAN’S MEDAL DURING A CEREMONY AT MACDILL
AFB EARLIER THIS MONTH. THE AIRMAN’S MEDAL IS
AWARDED TO THOSE WHO DISTINGUISH THEMSELVES
THROUGH A HEROIC ACT INVOLVING VOLUNTARY RISK
OF LIFE UNDER CONDITIONS OTHER THAN THOSE OF
CONFLICT WITH AN ARMED ENEMY OF THE
UNITED STATES. DURING HIS MORNING
COMMUTE, JACK WITNESSED A MOTOR VEHICLE LOSE
CONTROL AND VEER OFF THE INTERSTATE. RUSHING INTO ACTION, HE
REPEATEDLY ATTEMPTED TO FREE THE DRIVER THROUGH
THE BROKEN WINDOW WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY
BURST INTO FLAMES. JACK WAS FINALLY ABLE
TO FREE THE VICTIM JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE BECAME
ENGULFED IN FLAMES, SAVING HIS LIFE. YOU CAN FIND MORE AIR
