2016 Montlick & Associates’ Most Deserving Military Family – Meet the Oemke Family

– [Narrator] Tammie has
been in the army since 1990 and during that time has
served 10 years active duty and 13 years in the Reserves. She has been deployed four years in support of Operation Enduring Freedom including three combat tours. She was also deployed for six months to Honduras to aid with
Hurricane Mitch Relief Efforts because a hurricane hit
halfway during her deployment. Through every deployment, Tammie’s love for her country is rivaled only by her love for her family. She has been married to Tom for 21 years and they have two children. Tj is 13 years old and Payton is 8. Tj loves his sister, football, and misses having his mom at his games. He’s already talking about attending West Point Military
Academy after high school and joining the 101st Airborne Division. Payton loves to shop, make jewelry, and wants to be a cheerleader. Her favorite color is
pink which is really funny since we’ve never, ever
seen her mom in that color. And just like her mom, she
is the life of the party. She recently jumped in
the lake fully dressed. Well, her brother threw her in first but that’s another story. Now let me tell you about
our state-side hero, Tom. Tom has supported Tammie
through all 4 deployments, three of those with children. He fills both roles when she is gone and has helped raise two wonderful kids who are respectful, grateful, loving, and fun to be around. Tom really is a super dad.
He even does pigtails. If one family isn’t enough, Tammie also has another huge family, her family here in the O.R. at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. One of our physicians
nominated her for this award and now our entire team has pitched in to help support her in winning. Tammie is our neurosurgery
and intraoperative MRI service line coordinator
in the operating room here at Children’s at Scottish Rite and she has worked here for 13 years. She was deployed 3 times
during her tenure here and every time we miss her greatly, both at work and outside of work. We’ve been lucky to get
to spend time with her and her family at events like the O.R. Picnic, the
Tough Mudder to benefit the wounded warrior project, and even going hunting with Tj when he shot his first deer. But the best way to learn about Tammie is to hear from her coworkers. – I’ve known Tammie for 13 years. She’s an individual that is selfless. She cares about people,
her family, love of life. She’s always happy, a jokester, she cares about everybody that she is involved with. – Tammie is the life blood
of our hospital system and our operating room. When she’s here she makes
everything run smooth and we know first hand when she’s gone things kind of aren’t the same. We love Tammie very much. – I think of her as one of the dearest friends that I have. I’ve actually known her through 3 of her 4 deployments, I think, that she has taken and each time she goes
away and has to leave her family as well as her work family. It’s very difficult. We miss her here very
much when she’s away. Her commitment to the United States Army and to her family is just incredible. – Tammy epitomizes what it
means to lead a full life. She’s a wonderful wife,
a wonderful mother, great friend, excellent nurse, and a dedicated soldier. We know she merges her nursing
with her military skills and she truly makes a
difference in this world. Proud of you Tammie. – Love you Mom, 3 more months. – Also Mommy, if you very much please call me back really soon. – [Narrator] As you can tell, Tammie and her family are family to us. Please vote for Lieutenant
Colonel Tammie Oemke so she, Tom, Tj, and Payton can have the vacation they deserve when she returns this fall.
