2 New Mexico veterans honored with Medals of Service


TWO VETERANS WERE HONORED WITH MEDALS OF SERVICE DURING A CEREMONY TODAY IN LAS CRUCES. LIEUTENANT FRANCISCO MANTUA, WHO SERVED IN THE ARMY IN VIETNAM, RECEIVED THE SILVER STAR, THE THIRD-HIGHEST PERSONAL DECORATION FOR VALOR IN COMBAT, AND THE BRONZE OAK LEAF CLUSTER. AND PRIVATE FIRST CLASS, GEORGE GAY, WHO SERVED IN THE ARMY DURING WORLD WAR TWO, WAS POSTHUMOUSLY AWARDED A BRONZE STAR MEDAL AND TWO OTHER MEDALS. HIS SON ACCEPTED THEM ON HIS BEHALF. “Memorial Day is when we talk about the young men and women who )s lives were interrupted, who never came home.” CONGRESSMAN STEVE PEARCE HAD THE HONOR PRESENTING THE MEN WITH THEIR MEDALS AT THE VETERAN )S MEMORIAL PARK.

  1. That is NOT a service award. These are Valor awards. The Silver Star is awarded when you show a complete disregard for your own safety in order to attempt to save someone's life (lives) and or repel an enemy attack.
    I'm always proud to see recognition.
