Transport Regiment Transport Regiment Commander Brigadier General Walid fahmi we would like to offer to our listeners a historic review concerning the Transport Regiment. The Transport Regiment was established in 1945 under the nomination “Land Transport Battalion” and it was directly linked to the Army Command. In 1972, the name was changed to Battalion 801 that was stationed in Hazmieh at the Presidential Palace Highway. In 1983, the nomination was changed again to the “Transport Regiment”. The regiment included a command unit and two detachments and it was directly linked to the Logistic Brigade. In 1984, and due to the security situation, the Transport Regiment Headquarters moved from Hazmieh to the School of Agriculture in the region of Fanar till the year 2000 when the Headquarters moved back here. During this period, the Regiment consisted of a Command unit and two small yet very effective detachments. The regiment kept growing year by year and its primary mission was to provide support to the different army units by covering services such as transporting material, equipment, ammunition and water using wheeled and tracked vehicles as well as transporting inoperative vehicles in addition to transporting the troops from their residences to their posts and it also consisted of a Command unit. The Regiment consists of 7 detachments distributed between one Command and Service Detachment in addition to 6 other different detachments We have one Tank Carrier detachment, two detachments of Joint Transportation, one Cistern detachment, one Crane and Heavy Transport detachment and one Light Transport detachment First of all, the Command and Service Detachment is charged with 3 main tasks The first task is to provide the logistic needs of the Regiment while the second task is to manage the financial side and the powers vested to the Regiment The third task is to guarantee the protection of the sector allocated to the detachment The Cranes and Heavy Transport Detachments charged with two main tasks which are loading and unloading vehicles as well as towing broken vehicles The second mission consists of transporting ammunition, equipment and 20 feet containers, cement blocks, construction material The Tank Carrier detachment is charged with the mission of transporting 40 feet containers in addition to transporting tracked troop carriers, tanks and engineering vehicles, well as the wheeled vehicles, Humvees, Panhard Tanks and VAP vehicles The Light Transport Detachment is charged with the main mission of transporting the members of Arab and foreign delegations Its second task is to transport troops during training and operational missions This detachment is also charged with the task of providing tourist cars that can be used for different purposes by Army units The Cistern Detachment has three main tasks that consist of providing fuel from civilian fuel companies and distributing fuel to Army fuel stations spreading across the Lebanese territories The second task is to provide water to military posts and drinking water to military kitchens according to the request of these posts The last task is the disposal of wastewater from certain posts when necessary Last but not least, we have the 1st and 2nd Joint Transportations Detachments which are charged with the mission of transporting the troops from their posts to their residences in addition to performing other tasks such as transporting the families of martyr troops and school students All of the abovementioned tasks assigned to the detachments are issued according to the orders of the Army Staff for Equipment.
